How to write a guest post for us
Our audience wants to read stuff that’s punchy, interesting, helpful, relevant to the small business landscape, accurate and above all, well-written. And like you, they’re busy women, so they’re looking for useful information at a glance that adds value.
Who should write the post and who should it be aimed at?
Small business owners, industry experts, service providers – anyone with an interest in the SME world is welcome to submit a guest post.
We only accept articles from authors/businesses based in Australia.
Our audience is made up of people with an interest in the SME world. Your article should be relevant to anyone involved in a start-up or small business and who could benefit from your insights.
What you could write about
Suggested topics include tips on starting and running a business, business resilience, digital marketing tips, copywriting, social media trends, web design, strategies for small businesses, outsourcing vs DIY and time management.
Articles such as ‘How to’ lists, ‘Top x reasons’, ‘Top x things to consider’, ‘Best x Things to Know’ work really well, and it’s a good idea to break up your article into short sections using headings in the form of questions.
These suggestions are just the tip of the iceberg and we welcome fresh, creative content that you feel is relevant to the world of small business. And if you’re unsure whether your topic is on the right track, you’re welcome to chat to us before going ahead and together we can work out the best option.
While we welcome articles on a wide variety of topics, we don’t accept ones containing inappropriate content such as offensive, inflammatory or discriminatory material, hate speech, slander, personal information, adult content, illegal substances, religion, politics or gaming.
Guidelines for submitting a guest post
Now for the nitty gritty.
Originality – Your article must be original and can’t have been published on any other site. We run every guest post through http://www.copyscape.com/ just to make sure.
Ownership – Copyright ownership of your submitted content belongs to Digital Mums Directory. The content cannot be published anywhere else once it has been sent to us.
Word count – Blogs should be between 1000 and 1500 words.
Tone of voice – Our articles are read by real women! Easy-to-follow conversational language that engages, informs and entertains is best – and avoid too much jargon or overly technical stuff as that will just confuse readers.
Links – It’s fine to include links in the copy as long as they are relevant, the context organic and the link is to a trusted website. Please don’t add more than two external links.
Photos and graphics – Images are great as long as they are high-quality and relevant to the content. You can only use images that you or your business own or that you’re licensed to use.
Formatting – We prefer Word documents or Google docs please. As mentioned earlier, articles with short sections headed by questions work really well.
Editing – We’re sure we won’t have to make changes to your high-quality submission, but we do reserve the right to edit your copy for grammar, punctuation, style and content.
Payment – We don’t pay contributors for articles.
Biography – Please include a short biography with your submission (150 words). This should include your name, title, business name and location, email address, phone number, website address, social media profiles (eg Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn)
Publication – We welcome submissions but we don’t guarantee that every article will be published. Publication is entirely at the discretion of Digital Mums Directory.
How to submit – Please email your article to hello@digitalexpertsdirectory.com.au
A final word on writing for us
We look forward to getting your article (including your author biography and any supporting images) and once we’ve reviewed it, we’ll email a reply. Please allow up to two weeks for us to do this. If we do choose to publish your guest post on our blog, we’ll then send you a further email with all the relevant info (including date of publication etc).
Thank you! We look forward to receiving your submission to help us continue to build a strong community connecting women working in online and digital marketing to business owners running small operations which have an online presence.
